Privacy Policy for Meghalaya SignBank Mobile App

When you use the Meghalaya SignBank (“App”) through mobile devices published on Google Play Store on behalf of the Government of Meghalaya, this Privacy Policy explains what information (if any) is collected, how it is used, and how it is protected. The App is developed and hosted by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Meghalaya State Centre.
The App is provided as a reference and learning tool for sign language vocabulary. The information displayed in this App is intended solely for general reference and educational purposes and does not carry legal sanctity unless explicitly stated. While reasonable efforts are made to ensure accuracy, users should verify any critical information independently. Neither NIC nor the Government of Meghalaya shall be responsible for any loss or damage caused by reliance on the content of this App.
1. Information Collected & Manner of Collection
The Meghalaya SignBank App is expressly designed to not collect personal information from its users. To be clear:
- No camera access. The App does not request or use the device camera.
- No photos or videos are captured or uploaded.
- No location (GPS) data.
- No personally identifiable information (PII) such as name, email, phone number, or government identifiers is collected.
- No device identifiers (IMEI, Android ID, advertising ID) are collected by the App.
- No analytics, crash reporting, or third‑party tracking is enabled by default.
All learning content (images, short demonstration animations, descriptive text) is pre-packaged with the App or served from publicly accessible resources and is used solely for display. The App functions entirely without requiring any user-provided personal details.
2. Use of Information
Because the App does not collect any user personal information, there is no storage, processing, profiling, or sharing of personal data. The App operates offline or reads public resources for content display only.
3. Data Retention Policy
As no personal data is collected by the App, NIC does not retain any user-identifiable information. Any cached or downloaded content stored locally by the App on the device may be removed when the App is uninstalled by the user.
4. Rights
Because the App does not process personal information, users do not have user-specific data records to access, modify, or delete. To stop using the App, simply uninstall it; this will remove local content stored on the device. Server-held data is not applicable since the App does not upload user data.
5. Data Security
Although the App does not collect personal data, standard security practices are followed in the development and hosting of the App. Public resources are hosted on NIC servers and served over HTTPS. NIC follows government security policies for hosted applications.
6. Disclosures and Transfers
Since the App does not collect or process personal data, there are no disclosures or transfers of user personal data to third parties. If any future feature requires user data, a separate notice and explicit consent mechanism will be provided and published in this Privacy Policy.

By using the App, you acknowledge and accept the terms of this Privacy Policy. If the App’s data practices change in the future, updated policies will be posted here and appropriate user consent mechanisms will be introduced where necessary.
